hospitality.room-rate
Price a hotel stay night by night from the caller's seasonal, day-of-week rate table, less any length-of-stay discount.
1.0.0 · published 2026-10-03 by charlie · Anterra
Pinned by 18 tests, run in TypeScript, Python and Rust.
What it does
Prices a hotel stay night by night from a rate table the caller supplies, then takes off the length-of-stay discount the stay qualifies for. The result lists every night with its date, season and price, then the subtotal, discount and total.
## The rate table is the hotel's
For example
room_rate(rates ×3, stay discounts ×2, 2026-03-30, 3)→ nights ×3, subtotal £320.00, discount basis points 5%, discount £16.00, total £304.00 three nights across the season change: two low weekdays and a high night, 5% off for 3 nightsroom_rate(rates ×3, stay discounts ×2, 2026-03-27, 2)→ nights ×2, subtotal £220.00, discount basis points 0%, discount £0.00, total £220.00 Friday and Saturday nights at the weekend rate, too short for a discountroom_rate(rates ×3, stay discounts ×2, 2026-03-26, 7)→ nights ×7, subtotal £720.00, discount basis points 10%, discount £72.00, total £648.00 a week: Sunday night is a weekday night, and 7 nights earns 10% rather than 5%

fune build
With that line in your source, in a Rust project (language rust in fune.project), fune build resolves it and its 6 dependencies, pins them in fune.lock, downloads only the Rust package of each, and builds the code above into your project’s .fune/build, one readable file per capability with a header linking back here. A crate’s build.rs runs it before every compile. Or pin a range in fune.project and build in one step:
fune add hospitality.room-rate
The manifest, vectors and README with only the Rust implementation. Install it without the registry with fune add ./hospitality.room-rate-1.0.0-rust.fune, or fetch it from a terminal with fune pull hospitality.room-rate@1.0.0:rust.
The whole function, every language, is one file too: hospitality.room-rate-1.0.0.fune, 34,278 bytes, sha256 208333290373505148e2a6ca259cfffd40928fb3539a293ed8d040da0440476b. It installs into a project of any language.
Customise it in your app
The seams this capability offers. Put a marker directly above a function of your own and fune build wires it into the built code; the package on the registry is not changed, the built file’s header lists it under CUSTOMISED, and fune hooks lists every hook in the project. How hooks work.
before — your function gets the arguments and returns them, changed or not, or throws to refuse the call.
// fune: before hospitality.room-rate
after — your function gets the result and the arguments, and returns the final result.
// fune: after hospitality.room-rate
replace — inside this capability’s code only, calls to a dependency go to your function, with the same signature. Other capabilities that use it are unaffected; write in * to replace it everywhere.
// fune: replace dates.add-days in hospitality.room-rate
// fune: replace dates.day-of-week in hospitality.room-rate
// fune: replace money.add in hospitality.room-rate
// fune: replace money.amount in hospitality.room-rate
// fune: replace money.apply-rate in hospitality.room-rate
// fune: replace money.sum in hospitality.room-rate
step — your function runs at a numbered point inside the function’s body, receives the in-scope values it names as parameters, and may return replacements. List the points with fune show hospitality.room-rate --steps.
// fune: step hospitality.room-rate after <n|label>
Tests
A version published now needs at least 8 tests for every function, and one that expects the error for each function that throws; the registry refuses it otherwise. fune verify --all runs each case in TypeScript, Python and Rust, and a project runs them again with fune verify. This page lists the cases; it does not run them. The exact JSON is vectors.json.

More from the author
Rates are commercial decisions, not published rules, so there is no data file here. Each row covers a range of nights (`firstNight` to `lastNight`, inclusive) and, optionally, only some days of the week:
low 2026-01-01 .. 2026-03-31 Sun-Thu 90.00
low weekend 2026-01-01 .. 2026-03-31 Fri-Sat 110.00
high 2026-04-01 .. 2026-09-30 any 140.00A night is named by the date it starts, so "Friday night" is the night of a Friday, with the ISO weekday of that date (1 Monday to 7 Sunday).
**Exactly one row must match each night.** If none does, or two do, the function fails and names the night. The obvious alternatives, "the last row wins" or "the narrowest range wins", both quietly price a stay wrong the day someone adds an event rate on top of a season without removing the season. Make the rows disjoint, for example by splitting the season around the event.
## Length-of-stay discounts
`stayDiscounts` is a list of "at least n nights, x% off". The stay gets the discount with the largest `minNights` it reaches (7 nights beats 3 nights), and only that one. The percentage is taken off the subtotal once, rounded half-up, so there is no per-night rounding drift.
## Edge cases
- A stay across 29 February, a month end or a year end steps through the calendar with `dates.add-days`. - Every row must be in the same currency as the others the stay uses. - A malformed or impossible date anywhere in the table or the arrival is an error.
## Not covered
Per-person pricing, occupancy supplements, children's rates, packages and taxes (see `hospitality.tourist-tax` and `finance.tax.add-vat`) are separate steps.
